The "Son of a Blitch" Podcast
For those that know me and the variety of projects I've been a part of over my life, it is no surprise that I've had the opportunity to meet some incredibly interesting people along the way. I always enjoyed hearing about people's stories and perspectives, and even made a living recording those stories. In my early twenties, I was the media manager and part owner of a company, and it was my role to travel around and interview Indigenous Elders, and people working within these communities. Most of the time, I was traveling with my good friend and mentor, Harvey Arden (former National Geographic writer and best selling author). I was in charge of all the video and audio production, as well as running many interviews, myself.
As I launched this podcast, it reminded me of those times, and the incredible people I met along the way. I decided, with this podcast, to expand my guest panels to include folks that I have met from all areas of my life. I have interviewed business owners, leaders in the Outdoor Industry, James Beard Award-Winning Chefs, internationally acclaimed musicians, authors, speakers, professional athletes, TV show hosts, Federal Judges, inventors, survival and bushcraft instructors, other podcasters, and much more.
Please subscribe to this podcast to be notified when a new episode is announced. I'd also appreciate you giving it a 5 star rating and even sharing it with someone you think might find it interesting! If you have a guest suggestions, please let me know at: gblitch@sonofablitch.com

Ep. 35 "Noble Red Man - Lakota Wisdomkeeper, Mathew King" by Harvey Arden
Today, Sept. 25, 2023, would have been Harvey Arden's 88th birthday. To honor Harvey, I decided to release a Spoken Word project that we originally put out through our publishing company, HYT Publishing, for free, for the very first time. This is the recordings of "Noble Red Man - Lakota Wisdomkeeper, Mathew King". I know Harvey would have wanted you all to hear it! Stay tuned for a full podcast on Harvey...I'll get one out, eventually!
Mathew King (1902-1989), also known as "Noble Red Man," was a highly-respected Elder of the Lakota Nation. Harvey Arden, while working with National Geographic, went to Kyle, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, in February 1983 and met with Mathew, who let Harvey into the depths of his rich history, thoughts, and visions of the world. After many years of friendship, Harvey decided to organize and edit a book of Mathew's writings and interviews out, calling it "Noble Red Man". King shares the story of the struggles of the Lakota people, his spirituality, and our personal Instructions and Responsibilities we must follow in life.
After Mathew passed on to the spirit world, Harvey spent a great deal of time taking interviews, personal correspondence, and recordings Mathew's family gave him access to, and formed the book into what feels like an intimate conversation with King, himself. When Harvey was asked by David Lee if he was interested in recording readings from the book, he agreed—not only giving a powerful spoken-word performance of Mathew’s transformative words, but adding his own moving first-hand memories of meeting and getting to know Mathew.
These one-of-a-kind recordings have now been put together in an audio format, with haunting accompanying music by composer Jeff Foreman. This recording was nominated for (2) Native American Music Awards in 2011, as was Harvey, for the "Native Heart" award.

Ep. 34 w/ Joel van der Loon (Bush Survival Training & "Alone" TV Show cast)
In this Episode, George Blitch sits down with Joel van der Loon to discuss his adventurous life, from being introduced to the bushcraft world while living off the grid in Tanzania, traveling across the oceans, visiting over 40 countries, competing on various TV shows, to running his own Outdoor Survival and Bushcraft School: www.BushSurvivalTraining.com Joel also talks about his annual trips to visit and learn alongside the Hadza Bushmen, and he shares some incredible stories about his most recent trip there. Joel has learned a great deal from the wisdom that has been shared with various Indigenous People, including the Hadzabe hunter-gatherers, Maasai herdsman, Rama Indians in Nicaragua, and Native American Indians, here in the US.
Joel was a participant on Episode 3 of Discovery Channel's "Bushcraft Build-Off", and History channels' "Alone" in season 7 and "Alone: The Skills Challenge". He even tells a fascinating story about his time on "Alone" that did not make it on video, and therefore, was not a part of the show. His journeys on these shows are highly entertaining and educational and it is evident that Joel encompasses the skills and know-how to survive in the harshest of elements. He has shared these skills in a variety of courses that he has taught, all across the US, and it is no shock that these classes are in high demand to people that want to learn more about bushcraft and survival skills.
"I spent 12 years traveling the world through 40 countries and crossed oceans as a professional crew member, exploring some of the worlds most remote locations by sea. I have hiked, camped, and paddled in just about every type of ecosystem and trained in desert, alpine, jungle, and temperate survival methods. I have put myself into testing conditions with little more than a knife, water bottle, and the clothes on my back. I believe that there is no substitute for teaching from a position of real-life experience." - Joel van der Loon

Ep. 26 - Rob Gearing w/ Spartan Precision Equipment
In this episode, George Blitch sits down with Rob Gearing (aka “Mr. G”), who founded Spartan Precision Equipment in 2013, and claims to be your stereotypical crazy, bald inventor, but with an enduring passion for the extreme outdoors, whether it be in hunting, fishing, mountain climbing or biking. All Spartan products owe a nod to Rob’s extensive and unprecedented background in aviation engines, researching the best materials and the need for providing flawless hunting solutions.
“Spartan Precision Equipment produces rifle and optic support systems that weigh less and achieve more. Hunting is in each member of our team’s DNA, and as such we understand the rigours of our passion wherever they may take us around the world, and bind all of our knowledge and efforts together to ensure our designs never fall short of any requirement for that product’s application. Our flagship product – the Javelin Bipod – is a testament to our dedication to providing quality, practical solutions for all rifle shooting disciplines. Like many of our products since, it was invented with a desire to create a new-age adaptation of a traditional solution that could simply attach and detach as and when needed… that wasn’t cumbersome to carry”
“For shooters wanting to push the boundaries, the gear available on the market just didn’t cut it,” admits founder Rob. “In my younger years as a guide, I rapidly fell out of love with having a bipod hanging from my rifle and I used one infrequently. They got in the way and were a pain in my shoulder when carrying my rifle, and my eventual reluctance to carry a one presented me with a few failed hunts. So, applying my background in aviation engines and, in particular, discovery of rare earth magnets when working on the Concord aircraft sculpture, the resulting invention was an ultra-lightweight, stupidly strong bipod that could be on and off the rifle quicker than you could drop the legs on a run-of-the-mill bipod. Exactly what I was after.”
As such, the Javelin Bipod was an instant success among rifle shooters all around the world and formed a foundation from which all Spartan products – from entry level to top-end – are forged. Now, over half a decade into production, our fleet of rifle and optic support systems have generated a loyal and growing following that we are ever grateful for.

Ep. 12 - "5 Years Sober"
Today marks my 5th year of sobriety. I thought I'd share a little bit of my story, my struggles, and how I made it to this personal milestone. I do not ever want to push the idea of sobriety on anyone. It was the right move for me, as I wanted to become a better husband, father, and friend - and I needed to put the drink on the shelf in order for me to become the best version of myself. Many people are able to find a balance in their lives, but I struggled to do that with alcohol. For anyone that is having any issues with drinking or substance abuse, I highly encourage you to be honest with yourself and others, and seek out the help you need. It is a day at a time journey, but the rewards can be astronomical, and in some cases, it can save your life! Don't give up! If you want to win the battle over your addictions, you can! It takes work, courage, and discipline, but it is all possible! YOU can do it! Find the path, and take it one day at a time. Thanks for listening, everyone. It means a great deal to me, and I am forever thankful for everyone's support, especially my incredible wife, Meg, our daughters, and all my family and friends!

Ep. 10 w/ Jeremiah Doughty (From Field To Plate)
In this episode, George Blitch and co-host Matthew Mitchell sit down with Jeremiah Doughty, who is best known for his company, "From Field To Plate". Jeremiah is a wild game chef from Southern California, whose passion for the outdoors started at a very young age, but his love for it started many years later. "In 2010 I found out I was allergic to bovine fats (BEEF) and other processed meats. This allergy forced my hand into living without store bought red meats, but I chose to take a stand against it and do my own research. Through my study of food, nutrition and allergies I found that large wild game did not hold the allergic trade within its meats. This realization brought me into the large mammal hunting world and I harvested my first antelope in 2011. I quickly found out that it was harder than I had thought, and taking my meat to the butcher was out of the question because they used beef fats in many of their machines. I struggled to find people to help me and shape me within the industry. I struggled to make the meat taste good along with trying to butcher and hunt. After understanding the basics of wild game meat, I quickly found myself as one of the guys people looked up to for simple & easy wild game recipes. In 2016, I founded From Field To Plate as a tool for others to use and learn from. I did not have anyone there to help me when I first started in the outdoors and did not want anyone else to have that struggle. So I founded a blog with stories and recipes. In 2017, I started a hands on 4 day hunting, butchering & cooking school in South Texas. The classes have been mentioned in Outdoor life, NTWF, Mossy oak and other magazines. I have since taken over 350 new and veterans hunters into the field and kitchen. I have evolved my business into a thriving social media outlet, passion projects, podcast, recipes and will soon be launching my first cookbook. My passion for the outdoors grows every day and cant wait to change the Hunting Industry with a fork and a knife."

"Hey folks, my name is Larry White. I'm a hunter, avid outdoorsman and former restaurant chef whose life revolves around food and being in wild places. I grew up in the foothills of North Carolina spending my childhood hunting, fishing and walking the woods as much as possible. I was also lucky enough to grow-up beside of my grandma who was a phenomenal cook and the person that ultimately inspired me to become a chef. In 2003 I started my professional cooking career in the US Coast Guard as a Culinary Specialist before going back to college and obtaining a bachelors degree in Culinary Arts. I went on to work in Charleston, South Carolina fine dining establishments such as The Ocean Room at Kiawah Island, Peninsula Grill and Circa 1886, while working as a personal chef on the side. I ended up reaching my goals of owning and operating a restaurant and food truck. But after spending over a decade in hectic fast paced kitchens and starting a small family, I knew I wanted to get back to my roots, which is being in the outdoors. So me and my family packed up, left the city and moved to a rural coastal countryside town on our very own Back-40. We did this to give us a better opportunity to live off of the land, eat loads of wild game & fresh seafood and raise our children in an outdoor oriented environment. I began Wildgame Gourmet as a way to share my love for wild game, different cooking techniques and recipes that I've learned over the years with fellow hunters. Doing so with hopes of showing that wild game is delicious and can be the star of the kitchen as it once was in the past. After trying out some of my recipes, I hope that you will spread the good word to help influence more folks to get outdoors and bring their hard earned harvests back to the kitchen."

If for some reason you are not seeing the youtube player on your browser below, click here to view the video.
In this interview, George Bowe Blitch sits down with Judge Kevin Sharp to discuss Leonard Peltier and his ongoing fight for his freedom, after being wrongfully imprisoned for nearly half a century. Leonard Peltier (b. Sept. 12, 1944) is a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement. Following a controversial trial, filled with falsified evidence and testimony, he was convicted of aiding and abetting the deaths of two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents during a June 26, 1975 shooting on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. This video was released on June 26th, 2022 - the 47th anniversary of the shootout on the Pine Ridge Reservation that changed the lives of all that were involved for the rest of their lives.
Kevin Sharp is Co-Vice Chair of Sanford, Heisler Sharp and Co-Chair of the firm’s Public Interest Litigation Group. Prior to joining the firm, Kevin was nominated to the federal bench by President Barack Obama, confirmed unanimously by the Senate, and received his commission as a federal district court judge on May 3, 2011. Kevin served on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee from May 2011 to April 2017, including service from 2014 to 2017 as the court’s Chief Judge.
Since 2019, he has led a nationwide push to secure presidential clemency for Leonard Peltier, a 77-year-old Native American civil rights activist wrongly convicted in federal court and sentenced to two consecutive life terms for killing FBI agents at Pine Ridge Reservation in 1975. The U.S. Attorney’s office has since admitted it doesn’t know who killed the agents.
Kevin worked with Kim Kardashian to help secure Executive Clemency for Chris Young, a young man Kevin was required to sentence to life in prison for a non-violent drug offense due to draconian mandatory minimum sentencing laws. In January 2021, President Trump commuted Mr. Young’s sentence to “time served” and Kevin was at the airport to greet Young on his return to Nashville.

John Nores
John, a California native, grew up in a small town in rural Santa Clara County. The eldest of four, he and his brothers and sister (the wolf pack as their mom coined them) developed a love for nature and the outdoors at an early age. He initially began college with the goal of becoming a civil engineer but during winter break of his first semester, he fortuitously met a fish and game warden in the back country of Henry Coe State Park on a back-packing trip and was instantly inspired to become one himself.
Inspiration led to a certainty of purpose and as soon as he got back to school, he changed his major to Criminal Justice and began pursuing a career as a fish and game warden for the state of California. John has a Master of Science degree from San Jose State University in Criminal Justice Administration (1998), a Bachelor of Science Degree (1990) from San Jose State University in that same discipline and was inducted into SJSU’s Justice Studies Alumni Hall of Fame in November 2018.
Hard work and diligence led John to a diverse career he held for three decades. Beginning in 1992, he was hired as a warden for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and retired in December of 2018 as a special operations lieutenant working directly at the state level, co-developing and leading his agency’s elite tactical unit the Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) and developed the CDFW’s first sniper unit aimed at combatting the most environmentally damaging criminals working within California and impacting the nation. The MET has been featured on Fox News, NBC Investigative Reports, CNN, Dan Rather Reports and highlighted on the Outdoor Channel’s award-winning Patriot Profiles: Life of Duty documentary series.
Throughout his years of service he was a field training officer for new cadets, conducted statewide, national and international training in firearms, defensive tactics, high risk warrant and arrest tactics as well as basic and advanced sniper training programs with special operations personnel from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. John was awarded the Governor’s Medal of Valor for lifesaving and leadership efforts in 2007 and led allied agency dignitary protection details with the US Secret Service during the Obama administration.
Outside of work, John’s hobbies and interests are diverse and creative. He is an accomplished musician, sings and plays bass guitar, and likes to challenge himself with training for and competing at the highest level in endurance sports including Ironman Triathlons.
He was the first racer to solo and successfully finish the Baja 500 race “ironman” style in 2013 and as an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, enjoys hunting all over the world. John also enjoys back packing, skiing, photography, video production, scuba diving, and most anything involving the outdoors.
